A Matter of Trust · August 2026
New Routines. New Goals. A New Beginning.
Dear Clients, Planning Partners, and Friends of Cain, Cain & Janik,
There’s something wonderful about a fresh start. January gives us one when the calendar turns, but I’ve always thought August gives us another.
Maybe it’s because I spent so many years in school myself, but the beginning of a new school year still feels like a new beginning to me. New routines. New goals. A chance to get organized, buckle down, and tackle the months ahead. There’s just something about school buses, sharpened pencils, and little backpacks that says, “Here we go again!”
This week, that feeling is especially real around our office.
My law partner, Mitch Janik, and his family are living the excitement and the chaos of back-to-school season. His wife, Katie, is a library media specialist at Millwood High School, so she’s already back preparing for another school year. Meanwhile, they’re getting their son, Carson, ready for a milestone of his own: his very first day of first grade.
If you’ve ever raised children, you know what that means. New schedules, school supplies, lunchboxes, bedtime routines, and a few butterflies for everyone involved.
Watching Mitch balance family life with caring for our clients is a good reminder that life is always changing. Children grow up, families change, and before we know it, we’re entering another season of life. That’s why we “do what we do’ at Cain, Cain & Janik. That’s also what good estate planning is about. It’s about being prepared for family changes and making things a little easier for the people we love.
These years pass quickly. Before long, those first-day-of-school pictures become treasured family memories. The plans you put in place today become the support system your family relies on tomorrow.
So, as another school year begins, maybe we can all borrow a little of that back-to-school magic. A fresh start doesn’t have to wait for January. Sometimes it arrives in August, with a new backpack, a new routine, and the feeling that something good is just beginning.
With care and appreciation,
Tamara Cain
