The firm's founding voice, and the trust anchor for the families we serve.

Tamara grew up in Okeene, Oklahoma, and has built her life and her practice in Norman since meeting Marty in law school. She founded the firm on a conviction that estate planning is not a stack of documents. It is the human work of helping a family carry its hope, its values, and its causes into the next generation.

That conviction shapes every plan she designs. Tamara counsels before she drafts, integrating the human dimension that is so often lost in the technical intricacies, so a plan protects not only what a family owns, but who they are.

Tamara and Marty received the Albert C. Hunt Practice Court Award as the outstanding trial team in the fall of 1990. They married the next year, are raising two sons, Stephen and Brooks, and spend their free time outdoors with family in western Oklahoma.

A native Oklahoman whose steady counsel has guided families for more than three decades.

Marty graduated from the University of Oklahoma and earned his law degree there in 1991. Across his career he has carried a consistent commitment to leadership, from serving as president of his college fraternity to holding roles in his church and community.

He brings that same reliability to the families he serves. Marty and Tamara are partners in life and in practice, native Oklahomans who have made their home in Norman, and who believe a good plan is one a family can trust for the long run.

Questions about our attorneys

About the attorneys who will do your work

Who you will actually be working with, and what that means for your family.

Which attorney will handle my plan?

You work with the attorneys of Estate Planners for Life directly, not with a paralegal running a template. Tamara Cain, Marty Cain and Mitch Janik each meet with families themselves, and the counseling that shapes your plan is done by the person who will draft it.

Are your attorneys licensed outside Oklahoma?

The firm is licensed in Oklahoma and Texas, which matters for families who have moved between the two states or who own property in both. If you own real estate in a state where we are not admitted, tell us early so the plan accounts for it rather than leaving your family a second probate to open elsewhere.

Do you belong to any professional estate planning organizations?

Yes. Our firm is a member of the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys, whose Three Step Strategy shapes how we counsel, maintain and settle plans. Membership matters mainly because it commits the firm to a maintained relationship rather than a one-time drafting engagement.

Can I meet the attorney before deciding to hire the firm?

Yes. Your first step is a complimentary Right Fit Call, about 15 minutes by phone or in person with an experienced member of our team. The Right Fit Call is not a meeting with an attorney. It is an opportunity for us to learn about your needs, answer general questions, and determine whether our firm may be the right fit for you and your family. If it appears we are a good fit, the next step is to schedule a meeting with one of our attorneys.

More questions are answered on our estate planning FAQ, or ask us yours on a Right Fit Call.

Is your plan built to grow with your family?

Estate planning is a process, not an event. Start with a Right Fit Call: a short, no-pressure conversation to see whether we are the right firm for your family, and what a plan that walks alongside you would look like.
